Geology of the Hudson Valley

Students will learn the basics of geology and rock identification as they learn about the rock cycle in an informative interactive presentation.  Many rock samples will be used to illustrate the basic rock types, with a special emphasis on New York State geologic regions.  Then, equipped with rock hammers and goggles, students are challenged to apply their knowledge in searching for rock types, signs of weathering and perhaps find a fossil or two!

  • Erosion:  physical, chemical and biological

field trip only (no in-school option)

Program Length:  60-90 minutes, depending age and group size

  • 30-45 minute presentation
  • 30 minute geology pit activity
  • 15 minutes gift shopping, optional
  • Picnic area available

Program Cost:  $150 for up to 24 students. Staff is free. Additional students and adult chaperones $7 each.
